• Worm and wheel gear pairings provide large speed reduction ratios with more space saving setup compared with other gears. 
• Although it operates quieter, efficiency is lower due to heat generated during operations.  
• KG brands their worm gears as “Cold rolled Worm Gears”. This cold rolling technique is able increase surface hardness by 1.2 to 1.3 times the hardness of original material. The hardness of the helicoid surface increases to around HB240 to 260.
• Cold rolling also avoids cutting the metallic fibrous structure, hence achieving better mechanical properties than machined worm gears. 
• Cold rolled worms are suitable for miniature gear applications since this can be rotated smoothly without damaging the worm wheels made out of POM or other soft materials.
